Pause Before You Play: Bristol and Mike the Situation

Candies recently came out with a commercial promoting both abstinence and safe sex starring Bristol Palin and Mike the Situation. Many people criticized Bristol's mother, Sarah Palin, for being a hypocrite for promoting abstinence. A parent cannot control 100% of the actions and decisions made by their children. It is impossible. Bristol is taking the heat now for making this commercial and promoting abstinence calling her a hypocrite. I find this utterly ridiculous. Who better to promote the cause than someone that knows first hand the results? It is like someone who used to smoke cigarettes, quit, then promoted an anti-smoking campaign. Bristol knows first hand how hard it is to be a teen mom. I feel like the media is against promoting abstinence and feels Bristol is going against the curve. Schools today very briefly talk about abstinence, rather they have representatives from Planned Parenthood come in and teach the students how to use a condom. Abstinence is not "cool" which I never understood. I didn't think it was cool to have a child at 16 with a list of STIs. Teen pregnancy is on the rise and I for one congratulate Bristol and her efforts. Why are we condemning someone for saying yea I made a mistake I love my son, but abstinence is the way to go? Any opinions on this?

To be Felt Up or Not to be Felt Up...That is the Question

Airport Security has recently invited a new addition to their family...body scans. These machines see beneath the clothing, X-Ray machines if you will. It kind of reminds me of Jeff Dunham's superhero puppet. In the skit they joke about X-Ray vision, of course making it a sexual joke. The whole skit sounds ridiculous, which it is. So are these body scanners. The options security gives passengers, in reality is choosing the lesser of two evils. Do I want them to scan my body with a machine or do I want them to feel me up? Difficult question right? This is a question we should not have to answer. I was watching the news and Airport Security was patting down a little girl. The girl was crying and screaming, begging the man to stop touching her. Imagine if that was your daughter or son. How would you feel? I do not have children, but I can say that I would not allow it. This is an invasion of privacy. Many people argue that they feel safer. Hate to break it to all of these people, but this does not make us safer. Terrorists, unfortunately, are like computer hackers, one step ahead of us. We're searching bodies, while they have progressed to other methods. We have to stop searching for things used in the past and start thinking a few steps ahead of them. Then, and only then will we be safe. This topic is hitting the media by storm and it is fascinating to see and hear some arguments. Anne Coulter was recently on The O'Reilly Factor and made a few great points. One in particular was about check-in luggage. It is scary to think of the lack of security in regards to check-in luggage. We need to tighten this security, rather than feeling up little girls.

Veteran's Day

Happy Veteran's Day to all! I'd like to take a moment to thank all of our Veterans who fought for our country to defend the freedoms many of us take for granted. Our soldiers put their lives on the line each day to protect America; not only their loved ones, but also complete strangers. Thank you for all you have done. I would like to quote a great song "American Soldier" by Toby Keith.

-
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh and I don't want to die for you, but if dyin's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor, cause freedom don't come free
I'm an American Soldier an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right
-
Thank you to each and every Veteran! Thank you for the sacrifices you have made to support this great nation. You are all true heroes. God Bless all of you.

Welcome!

Welcome to The Young and The Conservative! My name is Chelsea and here you will get the insight to my political opinions as a young American citizen. I have always been very involved and interested in politics and have formed many opinions over the years. The voices of the young political minds', both conservative and liberal, have not been heard throughout the decades. I hope to break this pattern by expressing my political insight and opinion through this blog.

More posts to come come in the near future!
Thank you for visiting and God Bless America!
